Name: Princess Diana of Themyscira, daughter of Queen Hippolyta, leader of the Amazons (called Wonder Woman in the patriarch's world) Fandom: DC Comics
Diana of Themyscira is an enigma, but one as forward and honest as an enigma can be. Created from clay by her mother, Queen Hippolyta, and invested with life from the Greek gods, Diana grew up in a utopia society of only women. Cherished by her nation of people, she grew to become a great, if untested, warrior and philosopher. That idyll came to an end when her mother decided it was time for Themyscira to send an ambassador to Man's World. Although she forbade her daughter to enter the contest of choosing, Diana disguised herself and competed anyway, winning the chance to venture into this unknown world of men.
Diana, eventually named Wonder Woman by those in Man's World, has a unique mission; to bring peace through Amazonian ideals to Man's World. But this is often at war with the methods needed, so she is at turns an ambassador and a warrior. Given several gifts before she set forth, not the least of which is her lariat, Diana strives to accomplish as much as she can with words of wisdom. But she is unafraid to shed blood if necessary to protect innocents; she was raised by a society of courageous warriors who never shirk from such responsibility.
Her work over the years has been as much private as public. She went for a long time without a 'secret identity', as she didn't understand the need or concept, but now she works among society as Diana Prince. Publically, Wonder Woman is an official ambassador to the UN as a representative from the Nation of Themyscira. Privately, Diana Prince oversees a company that builds and maintains shelters across the U.S. for battered women and children. It is funded by private investors.
